Lukas Verstraete
Brussels, Belgium.
While the illustrations in Lukas Verstraete’s comic-like works are engrossing on their own, Lukas is first and foremost a storyteller who is fascinated with “losers, antiheroes, cowboys, knights, grotesque women, and wretched maniacs.” His characters exhibit the best and worst in us, our angels and demons - sometimes portrayed as caricatures, and sometimes portrayed literally as angels and demons. In the spirit of another phenomenal graphic storyteller, R. Crumb, Lukas’ panels evoke humor, contemplation, and revelations about all of us. His work for this month’s volume is sure to do the same.
Lukas Verstraete is based in Brussels. He has contributed countless contributions to editorial publications in his native country of Belgium. Elsewhere in the world, you can get his book, *A Book To Make Friends With*, in which a heist gone wrong turns into a story of shapeshifting, soul possessions, and an epic battle of good versus evil. Lukas Verstraete also teaches at the Graphic Storytelling Studio at LUCA School of Arts Brussels.
