Vorja Sanchez finds his chief inspiration in the fantastical possibilities of nature; the
“organic designs” of the forest, the mysterious lives of animals, and highly suggestive cloud
formations. Inhabitants of our natural world are transformed in Sanchez’s vision, achieving
mythological dimensions. Ghostly figures appear over a hillside and a vaporous hand
reaches out to caress a desolate forest landscape. Animals achieve supernatural powers,
and imaginary figures defy the conventions of the observable world. In the visual universe of Vorja Sanchez, such phenomena are commonplace. The artwork for Vol. 114 brings together a forceful melange of these concepts, with a mingling of the paranormal, the mystical, and the mythological that is both whimsical and even psychedelic.
