French-American artist Lou Benesch draws on folkloric traditions, mythological lore, and a fascination with the natural world to create a uniquely symbolic visual language.Animal and human figures appear in surreal configurations, rendered in beautifully saturated water color that recalls both Japanese woodblock printing and the art of Tarot. Recent work has seen Benesch branching out into new mediums, with her illustrations adorning ceramics and textiles. Her enchanting style has brought Benesch in contact with collaborators from the worlds of fashion (Australian brand Alemaisand French department store Printemps Haussmann) and global music superstars (Wolf Alice and Khruangbin) and her work has appeared on the cover of the New York Times Book Review.
