Visual Artist for Vol. 089: Space Case
Joe Taylor
Berlin, Germany.
The cast of characters that populate Joe Taylor’s work are a curiously melted bunch. The artwork for this volume depicts a mysterious cloaked figure stepping through a window on the way to a celestial netherworld, looking backward to reveal a globular visage that is only partially obscured by a hood. Framing our hero is a peanut gallery of colorful characters, ranging from recognizable members of the animal kingdom to alien beings of unknown origin. Taylor’s vision for this volume is a head-on collision between the psychedelic and the cartoonish, and the results are both enigmatic and whimsical.
Originally from the UK, Joe Taylor is now based in Berlin. Trained in graphic design, he works primarily as an in-demand illustrator and animator, with clients such as Apple, Netflix, and TED. A VM artist alumni, Joe Taylor previously created the original art for Vol. 089: Space Case, which featured an innovative rotating artwork spinner.
