Swimm - Sentimental Porno
Swimm first came to our attention when their anthemic indie-rock barnburner "Windows Up" appeared as track two on Vol. 053: Gilded Nights. A much different version of that same track appears here, on their classic 2018 debut album Sentimental Porno, in a striking and raw form, titled simply "Windows." With the bombast stripped away, the rugged emotion of front-person Chris Hess's warbling vocals is laid bare. The LA via Florida band proudly "pours every bit of themselves into their music," and you can really it hear it in that fervent voice and in the soaring guitars that define their sound across this confident debut record. Sure enough, as the title suggests, the mood here is both passionate and louche, and when the subject matter turns amorous the band proves equally adept at navigating a slinky groove as a pummeling riff.
