Visual Artist for Vol. 098: The Long Road... A Head.
Graham Francoise
Austin, Texas & Seattle, Washington
The characters in Graham Francoise’s art are usually going through something deeply personal - they all seem to be in those moments of internal conflict & introspection. Either through
their facial expressions or body language, we see them gazing inwards and dealing with fear, grief, melancholy, hopelessness. But by using color and fantastical elements, Graham infuses his illustrations with joy, hope, and a sense of play. They capture the multilayered experience of being human, where our feelings are never single notes, but instead exist as complex chords of different emotions, all interacting and informing each other. His art is the perfect backdrop for music that seeks a similar level of nuance and the perfect accompaniment for this month’s volume.
Graham Francoise earned his BFA from the Hartford Art School in 2005. Since then, he has exhibited his work across the globe and has been published in various art publications and children’s books, as well as a variety of commercial illustrations. Graham splits his time between Austin, TX, and Seattle, WA.
