Visual Artist for Vol. 122: Planes of Paper

Daniel Martin Diaz

Tucson, Arizona

Daniel Martin Diaz is a Tucson, Arizona based fine artist preoccupied
with “the mysteries of life and science.” For this volume, the artist has
created an expansive set of linked panels that bridge the cosmological,
the anatomical, and even lighter side of the occult. Silhouetted figures
are geometrically linked to a series of esoteric diagrams that bring to
mind the celestial and the spiritual.
The forceful geometry and “unexpected beauty” the artist finds in
scientific diagrams are another possible influence. Aș a designer and
illustrator, Daniel Martin Diaz’s clients include Atlantic Records, HBO’s
“Game of Thrones,” Netflix’s “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch Episode,” PBS,
and Warner Bros. Diaz is also a respected figure in the world of fine art,
with works included in permanent collections of notable institutions
like the National Museum of Mexican Art, Chicago, and the Tucson
Museum of Art, among others. A commitment to public art has led to
endeavors ranging from the “Sunset Bridge Across The Santa Cruz River
Art Project” to the award-winning “Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport Terrazzo
Project.” Diaz’s artistic journey is chronicled in four personal art books
which chart a “deep exploration of existential and scientific inquiries”
