Bill Rebholz is a Los Angeles based artist working across a range of mediums including illustration, mural, and sign painting. He trained as a designer and illustrator at Minneapolis college of Art and Design, but his earliest experiences with art-making took place in the industrial districts of his Wisconsin hometown, where he left his mark as a young graffiti artist. Later, during his student days, Rebholz taught himself brush lettering and worked as a sign painter and eventually as a muralist. These occupations turned out to be prophetic for an artist whose work has found multiple homes outside the gallery and the academy. The figures and landscapes in Bill’s work offer an appealing flatness with a cartoonish sense of whimsy, while bursts of color energize the scenery behind figures with funhouse-mirror proportions, all striking nonchalant poses. The composition is forceful and eye-catching, evidence of the artist’s restless creativity and keen eye for visual personality.
